That means Malaysians who earn less than RM100,000 a year and are aged between 18 and 65 years old can apply for the MySalam scheme. Previously, this scheme was only available for the B40 group but has since been expanded to include the M40. The government expects this scheme to benefit eight million people in 2020, FMT reports.

Under MySalam, the M40 group is eligible for a one-time payment of RM4,000 and a daily hospitalisation fee of RM50 for a maximum of 14 days or RM700 a year, while B40 applicants will be entitled to a one-time payment of RM8,000. For patients who have been warded with the Covid-19 coronavirus, they are also eligible for a RM50 allowance up to 14 days in the year.

Other changes announced by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng include raising the number of critical illnesses covered from 36 to 45. These changes came into effect on January 1st of 2020. Lim said, “The government is concerned about the financial challenges faced by the M40 group, especially in facing healthcare emergencies, and has decided to extend the scheme to those earning less than RM100,000 (annually).”

He added, “The scheme proves the government’s sincerity in making the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 a success, helps Malaysians get the medical treatment they need and reduces their cost of living – especially when they are hit with illnesses.”
