Covid-19 hasn’t just put our health at risk but the dreaded virus is also threatening the well-being of our livelihoods with the way it has affected the job market. With job vacancies found few and far between, those seeking employment are left scrambling for any job they can get their hands on.
A post shared in the Facebook group, Info Jawatan Kosong Kerja Di Kelantan, reveals just how drastic things have become for job seekers these days. In a video captured by a netizen, swarms of people can be seen queuing up with documents in hand to apply for a supermarket job in Econsave, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. Long lines of people were pictured waiting in what appears to be a lot. While many can be spotted with face masks on, hardly any observed the rules of physical distancing.
Earlier this month, Econsave posted about a walk-in interview session that would be held at the outlet on 10-11 September.
A few netizens in the comment section of the post expressed their sympathy for those who were lining up on that day, highlighting the difficulty of finding a job during these trying times. Others shared links and contacts for employment opportunities for those who were interested.
In May, the Malaysian Department of Statistics published a report stating that the unemployment rate was the highest ever in May 2020 at 826.1 thousand people (5.3 %). While this figure is largely caused by how badly the economy is hit by the pandemic, some government officials like the Deputy Minister of Human Resources believe that graduates are too picky about employment criteria like job location.
Good luck to those who are looking for employment opportunities! What do you guys think of this?
