Newly elected Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir just announced a core list of three new cabinet ministers today. The other seven portfolios are to be released later.

The new ministers include:

  1. Minister of Finance: Lim Guan Eng
  2. Minister of Defense: Haji Mohamad Sabu bin Sabu
  3. Minister of Home Affairs: Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin bin Haji Mohd

Lim Guan Eng is a former banker and a qualified chartered accountant.

Since the founding Finance Minister Tan Siew Sin 44 years ago, Lim Guan Eng is the first to become Malaysia’s ethnic Chinese Finance Minister. When asked about that, he said,

“I’m sorry, I don’t consider myself a Chinese, I am a Malaysian.”

This is the exact 1Malaysia spirit we need!
