Digital travel platform Agoda has named the Sarawak capital city of Kuching as the 3rd cheapest tourist destination in the Asia Pacific region for holidaymakers wanting to go on vacation this year.

As reported by The Borneo Post, Kuching is the most affordable tourist destination in Malaysia and in the Asia Pacific region, it is only behind Thailand’s Hat Yai and Indonesia’s Yogyakarta. Making up the top 5 are Vietnam’s Dalat, India’s Goa and the Philippines’ Baguio.

The analysis by Agoda is based on total travel data assessment, with many travellers already booking their trips to Kuching between 22 and 31 December 2023.

The analysis added that in Malaysia, Kuching has the lowest average room rate at RM282 per night. Furthermore, the Sarawak capital is also one of the most researched locations that offers visitors a great place to spend the final days of the year.

Agoda director of partner services for Malaysia and Brunei, Cleland Robertson added that in December, Kuching turns into a festive wonderland, adorned in colourful lights and decorations, further asserting,

“Locals and visitors alike gather at the lively Carpenter Street, where the vibrant nightlife scene takes on an extra layer of excitement during New Year’s Eve.

“From bustling beaches and thrilling theme parks to spiritual sanctuaries and foodie. Kuching turns into a festive wonderland, adorned in colourful lights and decorations.”
