Yesterday, it was reported that a thief had driven away in a red Honda City, after the owner had left it running outside of a petrol station convenience store in Kuantan, with her mum inside the car. Thankfully, the elderly woman made it out of the car safely.
Now, it has been revealed that the thief has been arrested in Bentong, and the car has been recovered.
According to a report by Berita Harian, District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu has since confirmed the arrest.
“Yes, the suspect has been arrested in Bentong, the car has been found,” he said.
Here’s what happened from inside the car!
The car owner’s mum has also since shared further details of her terrifying experience of being in the car when it was stolen. The 68-year-old retired teacher, Napisah Muhammad, revealed that she doesn’t feel traumatised but the incident was still shocking to her.
Upon entering the car, the suspect had told her to be quiet.
“The man entered suddenly and sat next to me (in the driver’s seat). At that time, I tried to run out but he held onto me. He held onto my shoulder while shouting ‘shut up‘. I tried to get out and dropped my bag, but by then, he had sped off. I saw my child chasing the car,” she told Sinar Harian.
The suspect continued to hold onto her shoulder so that she couldn’t jump out. She struggled against his grip and even managed to open the car door. That’s when the suspect slowed down near some shoplots.
“Upon reaching Jalan Besar, he entered the left junction and continued into the area of the shop premises on the left. After that, he told me that ‘if you want to get out, then get out‘ and slowed down the car before pushing me out of the car,” she added.
Napisah said that she felt thankful that the suspect allowed her to leave the car about 400 meters from where the car was stolen.
“This incident became an experience for me and I was able to teach (a lesson) to others to be more careful. If possible, lock the doors and turn off the engine so another case like this doesn’t happen,” she said.
And we definitely urge everyone to take Napisah’s advice and make sure to turn off your engines and lock your car, even if you know you’re going to stop for just 2 minutes.
