With the recent sinkhole incident that has left a woman missing for days now, many are starting to question whether Kuala Lumpur is safe. A politician even suggested moving Kuala Lumpur due to safety concerns.

Following this, the new Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif, recently shared her belief that Kuala Lumpur is still safe unless there are studies to prove otherwise.

Astro Awani took to their Twitter page to showcase the press conference where Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah also further explained that a task force has been set up to study the existing conditions of the city.

Study 5

She said, “Kuala Lumpur is still safe unless there is a detailed study on it (to prove otherwise).”

Considering there is a family who is missing a loved one due to the sinkhole at Masjid India, Malaysians were bewildered by the KL Mayor’s confidence that the city is safe before any studies could be conducted.

Study 3

Study 1

“How can she be so confident before a detailed study can be done?”

Study 4

“Just assuming that it’s safe and only establishing a task force now that an incident has taken place is not good.”

Study 2

“What kind of statement is this? There’s no (existing) study so it’s safe?”

Some defended the KL Mayor by pointing out that she’s still very new to her position and also cannot immediately assume that Kuala Lumpur is not safe until the study is completed.

What do you think about this? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
