UPDATE: As of December 26, the Ampang Jaya City Council (MPAJ) revealed that they have canceled the premise’s license. The application for a new license will only be reconsidered IF and only if the Mamak restaurant adheres to all aspects of food hygiene and handling.
The location of the viral Mamak restaurant with a huge rat casually feasting on the chicken in the warmer has been (partially) identified after the Ministry of Health (KKM) paid the restaurant a visit, following the widespread of the video on social media.
In a statement released yesterday (December 25), KKM revealed that they visited the restaurant in Pandan Indah, KL on December 24 to conduct a check on the restaurant. The cleanliness of the Mamak restaurant was not on par as the place did not adhere to and failed in many aspects of proper food handling. KKM immediately issued 6 compounds to the restaurant, and they were asked to close down for 14 days, effective immediately.

The notice of the closure was also shared in the Facebook post, but with the name of the restaurant censored, leaving only the name of the area exposed.
“We have the right to know!”
This has caused dissatisfaction among many Malaysians as they believed that consumers have the right to know the exact location, so that they may avoid the place in the future.
“Come on, media. The consumers have the right to know. It’s Restoran Ariff.”
“Make sure it’s closed for 14 days. There’s a restaurant in my place where it was opened 3 days after the notice. They said the Health Department has checked and approved the cleanliness. Now, the place is dirty again. The same cloth used to wipe the table is used to wipe the plates.”
“KKM should be responsible to expose the name of the restaurant. This will allow consumers to be more careful.”
In the meantime, more netizens took the opportunity to expose the name of the Mamak restaurant.
“It’s the Mamak restaurant in front of the Public Bank in Pandan Indah. It was indeed closed when I passed by.”
A netizen shared his horrifying experience of dining in at the place.
“Last month, I saw the worker digging his nose and wiping his finger on his apron. He did not wash his hand.”
KKM urged restaurant operators in the country to take hygiene seriously to prevent food poisoning or infectious disease through the food. Have you ever visited the said Mamak restaurant in Pandan Indah?
