The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has revealed that a total of 33,092 notices for various offences and 1,516 motorcycles were impounded during a 7-day operation from 1 to 8 September 2023 aptly called “Ops Khas Motosikal” or translated to English as Motorcycle Special Ops.
According to BERNAMA, JPJ senior enforcement director Datuk Lokman Jamaan said that the actions were taken following inspections of 64,980 motorbikes, with the seizures due to extreme vehicle modifications.
He added that some major offences were detected throughout the special ops, including 11,445 notices issued for riding without insurance, 9,496 without valid licences and 1,145 for vehicle modifications.
Besides that, motorcyclists also committed offences such as running the red light (474 notices) and not wearing a helmet (306 notices), both offences violating the regulations under the Road Transport Act 1987.
JPJ also found that most motorcyclists committed offences by modifying the original structure of the vehicle which can cause accidents. Lokman asserted,
“Most of the impounded motorcycles were found to be modified on the exhaust, removing the rear brake system including extreme modifications to increase the speed of the motorcycle.
“For motorcycles that have been extremely modified and cannot be changed back to their original structure, they will be dismantled and parts auctioned off because they are no longer road worthy,”
