Malaysians from all over the country were ecstatic when news of Johor Princess, Tunku Tun Aminah getting married to her Dutch fiancé, Dennis Muhammad Abdullah came to light. Since it’s a royal wedding, it’s safe to say that the princess’s wedding gown would turn heads and bear an exorbitant price tag, but that’s not the case.
The princess’s aunt decided to shed light on the simple yet elegant wedding dress that the princess wore during her wedding. Here’s what she said on Twitter.
“At my nieces’ wedding, Tunku Tun Aminah wore a dress made from Tenun Pahang Diraja (a type of woven silk fabric). It was designed by me, but weaved by a convict in Penor Jail.”
This certainly came as a surprise for everyone as we had expected the dress to be made by a well-known dressmaker either locally or overseas, and not someone who’s doing time in jail.
Netizens were amazed when they heard about this news.
“She as a royalty, was willing to wear a dress sewn by a convict. This shows that she doesn’t care about who made the dress or where it’s from. She’s not afraid that her reputation might be scarred due to the maker of the dress. Meanwhile some of us who are not even royalty would look down on the inmates,” a netizen said.
“This is why I love the Johor royal family, they like to keep it simple. Not like someone I know who works in a factory but insists on holding a posh wedding ceremony,” another netizen commented.
Others also mentioned how proud the dressmaker must have felt as the dress was worn by a princess, an honour not afforded by every other dressmaker.
Anyway, we’d like to congratulate the newlywed couple and wish them nothing but joy and happiness in their new life chapter!
