Japan’s I’m donut? has officially arrived in Malaysia, opening its first-ever store in Southeast Asia at The Exchange TRX, Kuala Lumpur. Open to the public from 12 September 2026, the highly anticipated store will introduce Malaysians to I’m donut?’s signature nama doughnuts, alongside a specially curated selection of creations developed for its Malaysian debut.

Founded by chef and owner Ryouta Hirako, I’m donut? was created with a simple yet unconventional question in mind: “Am I a donut?”. The playful name captures the brand’s approach to reimagining what a doughnut can be – challenging expectations of the familiar pastry through its distinctive texture, handcrafted preparation and unexpected flavours.

At the heart of I’m donut?’s offering is its signature nama donut, known for its exceptionally soft and delicate texture. Rather than simply replicating a traditional doughnut, the brand’s creations are designed to offer a different experience with every bite, reflecting Chef Hirako’s desire to create pastries that are familiar in appearance yet surprising in taste and texture.

“We are very happy to finally bring I’m donut? to Malaysia and to introduce our nama donuts to customers in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia has such a vibrant and diverse food culture, with people who are curious and open to discovering new flavours. We are excited to see Malaysians experience I’m donut? in their own way, and we hope the store will become a place where people can enjoy our donuts with friends and family,” said Chef Ryouta Hirako, Founder of I’m donut?.

For its Malaysian debut, I’m donut? will offer a selection of its signature creations, including the I’m donut? Original, Nama French Cruller, Pistachio Cream, Cacao and Custard. Together, more than 30 flavour selections offer Malaysians a first taste of the textures and flavours that define the I’m donut? experience.

Adding a local touch to the brand’s Southeast Asia debut, the Kuala Lumpur store will also introduce Malaysia-exclusive creations, developed specifically with local tastes and preferences in mind. Malaysians can look forward to Cham, Hojicha Kaya Jam, Milo Glazed, Masala Chicken, Banana Fritter Caramel, Pandan Coconut Cream, and many more special flavours that can only be found in Malaysia.

This special menu represents I’m donut?’s approach to entering a new market – bringing the essence of its Japanese creations while embracing the flavours and food culture of its new home. From familiar local influences to playful interpretations of classic flavours, each creation has been developed to give Malaysians a reason to discover I’m donut? beyond its signature offerings.
