Malaysians spend their weekends primarily hanging out in malls. Isn’t that boring if you do that every single weekend?
As of August 28, DBKL will begin closing Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, also known as Jalan TAR, on Sundays.
According to a Facebook post by DBKL, they say:
“Jalan TAR will be closed to all vehicles from 6am to 12 am every Sunday starting from August 28, and it will be pedestrian-friendly.”
The closure will start from the intersection of Jalan Esfahan to the junction of Jalan Melayu. To help you visualize better, here’s a map:
That’s not all, as the city council has put several attractions along the road for Malaysians of all ages to enjoy. There will be performances by buskers, portrait and inai drawings, kiosks and rest areas along the route. The street will also be decorated so that people can take pictures.
Other than that, there will also be places for children to play and have fun while supervised by officers.
In a Facebook post, the mayor of KL, YBhg. Datuk Seri Hj. Mahadi Che Ngah said those interested in spending time with their family at Jalan TAR on Sundays should definitely take public transport there.
It is accessible through the GOKL bus and LRT (LRT Masjid Jamek or LRT Bandaraya).
It was mentioned in a statement that this is an effort by the city council to lower KL’s carbon footprint.
Many netizens believe this is a good idea and hope visitors will keep the area clean.
“Good initiative. Hope the visitors will keep the place clean.”
This is a great way for city dwellers to de-stress after a long week!
