Finally, some good news for the year!

If your days have been looking bleak with the continuous lockdowns, well, it’s time to beam with pride as two-time Olympic medallist, Pandelela Rinong has made history by winning Malaysia’s first-ever and ONLY gold medal in the women’s 10m platform final, at the FINA Diving World Cup 2021.

BERNAMA reported that Pandelela amassed 355.70 points to win the final at the Tokyo Aquatic Centre in Japan.

The FINA website confirmed that the 28-year-old Sarawakian has also sealed her spot in qualifying for the Tokyo Games in Gwangju.

“Of course I want to be in the podium at the Olympics but I also want to do my personal best in both the synchronised and individual events.”

The silver medal went to Matsuri Arai from Japan after garnering 342.00 points while Canada’s Caeli Mckay took home the bronze medal with 338.55 points.

Malaysians have been pouring out their congratulatory wishes for the diver all over social media. It even caught the attention of Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican who wished her on his Twitter and Facebook.

Let’s give some love to Pandelela Rinong in the comments section!
