An influencer recently went viral on social media for claiming that graphic designers have no future in the local industry.

According to China Press, he reportedly said that hiring graphic designers is costly and that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and online tools would be a better alternative.

“AI would only cost RM99”

The man also claimed that hiring a graphic designer can cost thousands of ringgit a month, while using AI and online tools would only set you back RM99.

He later warned students who are considering studying the field not to “waste their parents’ money”.

According to him, the industry might have opportunities abroad, but locally it’s not really worth it unless you bring something unique, with an exceptional set of skills.

“Don’t waste your parents’ money”

Meanwhile, Sin Chew Daily reported that the man described working as a graphic designer as a form of artistic creation and said that many in the industry eventually shift to fashion design.

“If you want to study graphic design, don’t waste your parents’ money,” he said.

The video has since sparked heated discussions online, with some netizens questioning his understanding of the industry.

One user reportedly agreed with him, noting that the local market demand is limited and competition is tough. However, the netizen stressed that every industry has its challenges, and there’s no need to belittle any of them.
