One of the most depressing things that can happen to a pet owner is when a pet goes missing. Many of us would scour high and low, holding onto hope that we just might find them back, and that they aren’t lost forever. However, in this cruel world, it’s sad to think that there are scammers out there that would take advantage of other people’s desperation just to make a few quick bucks.

A girl named Lim recently took to Facebook to share how she almost got conned by a man who allegedly found her dog. She writes,

“I’ve been looking for my dog the past few days, so much so that I’ve lost all emotions.

“Just now, I got a phone call from a man and he said that someone has found my dog, but that person wants RM200 for it. What’s more, they want it via bank transfer, not cash. After some discussion, he said to bank in RM100 first, the rest of RM100 can be given when we meet up. At that time I thought, if using this amount of money is able to get my dog back, then why not?”

Now, when a person is super desperate, it’s easy to miss all the red flags. But luckily for Lim, her friends pointed some out which knocked her back into reality. They said, if it’s really a person who found your dog, then why is the bank account linked to ‘ANJ Aircond Services’?

Before making any transfer, Lim questioned the man, trying to make sure he’s legitimate. However, the man only got more and more frustrated and even said, “I’m the owner of Fuller Hotel Kulim. I’m not going to cheat you out of a mere RM100.”

With that info, Lim rushed to Fuller Hotel Kulim to meet up with the man. Upon informing she’s outside the hotel, the man replied,

“I didn’t wait up. I went home to sleep. You can slowly look for your dog. Bye bye.”

She even made sure that he’s an actual scammer by going into the hotel to ask about their boss. Nope, their boss was not someone known as ‘Mr Lee’, nor was his number the one that’s been Whatsapping her.

Lim wrote this post in exasperation, sharing with everyone out there that scamming money is not right.

“As a person who was desperately looking for her dog, my emotions are not for you to toy around nor be taken advantage of. This scammer has hurt me emotionally.

At first I thought my dog was finally found, but it was all a scam. That gave me an even bigger heartbreak. Scammers who do this are just rubbing salt on another person’s wound…”

People who read the post extended their sincere apologies to her who is going through this. Many also thanked her for sharing her experience, hoping that more and more people understand how painful it is being scammed, even if it’s only for RM100 – because it’s not about the money, it’s the rollercoaster of emotions that went through it all.

For everyone else out there, be careful and share with your friends to avoid being victim to these cruel people who preys on your desperation.

Whoever is doing this just to earn a quick buck really should be ashamed of themselves!
