Minister of Human Resources Steven Sim took to his X account to showcase how he ‘killed (cared for) 2 birds with 1 stone’ by bulk buying Indian snacks from an underprivileged aunty in Batu Caves in conjunction with Deepavali, to be distributed to his staff at the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA).

He wrote, “Happy Deepavali, my friends.”

In his video, Steven Sim explained that he had bulk purchased an Indian snack, Omapodi (a savoury fried snack made from besan flour, gram flour, chickpeas and more), from an underprivileged woman at Batu Caves to his staff while he distributed the snack to them.

“I bought these from an elderly Indian woman who lives at Batu Caves. Because she is an underprivileged person, her husband has passed away and she works as a cleaner. Even her house rent has been overdue for 4 months,”

“We bulk purchased this Omapodi to help her this Deepavali,” he told his staff members.

He then went around the KESUMA office distributing the snack while wishing his Indian staff members a very happy Deepavali. Talk about killing 2 birds with 1 stone, helping an underprivileged woman while treating his staff to some delicious snacks!

At one point, Steven Sim asked his staff if they liked working at KESUMA, to which one staff member responded that they did as they were working under a good Minister.
