For the love of Malaysian food!
There are just too many local delicacies for us to mention here, and whenever we travel abroad, the food back at home is no doubt what we miss dearly. Hong Kong veteran actor, Hugo Ng loves Malaysian food as much as us, so much so that he decided to open a Kopitiam with his wife at Eko Cheras Mall in KL.
In his Facebook post, Hugo shared an announcement of the opening ceremony eatery, known as 9 Kopitiam which opened its door on May 9. The ceremony was attended by another Hong Kong singer, a local singer, and TikTokers. During the media press, Hugo and his wife, Lily Chung admitted to being huge fans of Malaysian food and that they regularly visit Malaysia.
“Semua (all) is delicious!” Hugo said.
Lily revealed that her parents were originally from Sabah, but then migrated to Hong Kong where she grew up. Despite so, Lily considered herself a Malaysian. The pair also said that they decided to venture into the F&B industry and open a Kopitiam in Malaysia in hopes of sharing their love of Malaysian food with others.
However, Malaysia will not be their only stop.
They have thoughts on expanding their brand across South-East Asia as investors and ambassadors of the kopitiam, and they also have plans on opening a branch in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Hugo said that he will be present at the cafe from time to time to oversee the operation and mingle around with the guests.
In a report by China Press in 2019, it was reported that Hugo and Lily purchased a condominium unit in Penang. Over the years, Malaysia has been one of the hotspots for foreign celebrities who call the place their second home.
To those staying in Cheras or Klang Valley, will you be giving this place a try?
