In a press conference today (July 1), PDRM provided an update on the case of the murdered student in Cyberjaya and revealed how the male suspect gained access to the condominium unit.

He got the access card and keys from his girlfriend, who is one of the housemates of the deceased and one of the three arrested suspects.

Last week, 20-year-old Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara was brutally murdered, and the police confirmed blunt force trauma to the head as the cause of death. Three suspects – two women and a man aged 19 to 20 – were arrested and remanded to assist with the investigation.

The male suspect was staying in the unit on the night of the murder

Selangor Police Chief, Dato’ Hussein Omar Khan, said today that the housemate gave her keys and access card to her boyfriend as they had stayed together in the unit previously. On the night of June 24, all housemates had already returned to their respective hometowns after sitting for their final exams, except for Maniishapriet.

The male suspect was staying in the unit that night, and according to Dato’ Hussein, the suspect had ill intentions and killed Maniishapriet in the apartment. He then took the victim’s belongings, including her ATM card and spent around RM200 after the murder.

Dato’ Hussein also added that the autopsy report shows no signs of Maniishapriet being raped.

“This is not a premeditated crime, but it happened suddenly. We are still investigating if the girlfriend of the male suspect was aware about the matter,” Dato Hussein told the reporters.

In addition to the three suspects, PDRM has locked in another suspect, whom they believe had contact with the male suspect after the murder. The new suspect, however, was arrested for another case, and the police are currently going through the procedures to get a statement from the latest suspect.

“The new suspect is believed to have received the victim’s belongings, but has no connection to the incident.”

PDRM also confirmed that the remand on all suspects, which was supposed to end on July 3, will be extended.
