Cyberjaya Student Murder: PDRM Confirms Arrested Male Suspect is Boyfriend of The Victim’s Housemate

At the time of writing (June 27), 3 suspects – a man and two women aged 19 and 20 had been arrested over the murder of 20-year-old Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara at a condominium in Cyberjaya, Selangor, and all suspects will be detained for one week starting today.

Maniishapriet was found unconscious by a friend around 10 AM on Tuesday (June 24) inside her room at a condo in Cyberjaya and confirmed dead shortly after officers arrived at the scene. As of last night (June 26), 14 people, including Maniishapriet’s lecturer and housemates, had provided their statements to the police, reported Astro Awani.

The suspects were arrested in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, and the male suspect is also the boyfriend of one of Maniishapriet’s housemates, reported Sin Chew.

Police also said that all suspects personally knew the victim. Sepang police chief Asst Comm Norhizam Bahaman said the suspects were arrested between 9 AM yesterday and 2 AM today. Shortly after the murder, one of the suspects made 6 transactions using Maniishapriet’s ATM card. Her belongings were also taken.

In another report by the Malaysia Gazette, Maniishapriet is said to have been staying alone since June 21 after her housemates returned to their respective hometowns. She had to stay back as she was scheduled to sit for an exam.

Police also confirmed blunt force trauma to her head as the cause of death.

The case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with the motive still unknown. Stay tuned as we keep you updated.
