A German family told reporters that they would rather be stuck in Malaysia during the Covid-19 outbreak than to return to their home country. According to NST, 50-year-old Ralf Nussbaum is one of the 36 foreign tourists who had been stuck on Pulau Kapas due to the movement control order (MCO) since 18 March.

But now he, his wife Eva Nussbaum (50) and his children Louis (6) and Lucie (3) have no choice but to return to Germany on Tuesday (21 April) after being here for the past one month as their social visit passes are expiring soon.

“After more than a month here, we are facing financial problems and as such need to go home urgently,” Ralf said.

“My family in Germany are also worried for our safety.”

He added that he and his family were stranded in Pulau Kapas and that they have been treated very well during their stay on the island.

“I can’t imagine being stuck anywhere else, it is unlikely that we would have been treated as well as here,” he said.

Eva then added that she will never forget the kindness, comfort and assistance that her family has received throughout their stay in Pulau Kapas.

“All the locals and the management of the accommodation on the island have been so kind to us that we feel at ease here,” she said.

“This is the first time for us in Pulau Kapas and Malaysia and we will definitely return here due to the kindness of the locals.”

Marang District Office has since arranged the family’s transportation to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) free of charge.

“We will assist them to the best of our ability including providing transportation to KLIA if necessary,” Officer Tun Ahmad Faisal Tun Abdul Razak he said.
