One of Malaysia’s biggest exports, especially in the entertainment industry, has got to be the animated series Upin Ipin.
You’d be surprised at how popular the series is in our neighbouring countries, such as Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia and is a favourite among children thanks to the series’ shared culture and relatable storylines.
If you travel to Indonesia, you can see first-hand how popular the animated series there, including being aired on the country’s national television, its merchandise being sold everywhere and street performers wearing costumes of the titular characters Upin and Ipin.
Recently, one of the latter went viral on TikTok, showing an individual in an ‘Ipin’ costume in Indonesia being embarrassed as the costume’s tighty whities were not so tight, causing the shorts to almost fall over.
The 17-second video, shared by TikTok user @lely_faj has since gone super viral, garnering over 23.7 million views and more than 2.7 million likes in just under 3 days.
In the video, ‘Ipin’ can be seen being embarrassed at his shorts almost falling down and quickly running to a bench with his hands on his face and laying there for a few seconds.
The street performer then tried to pull up the tighty whities properly but to no avail. A girl who was with her family and watched the situation unfold from afar then ran over to ‘Ipin’ to help save him from further embarrassment.
The video ended abruptly as the girl tried to help the person in the costume. In the video’s comments section, many netizens were amused at the street performer’s demeanour, especially the gesture of putting their hands on their face after the shorts fell.
