This incident went viral after netizens who viewed CCTV footage of the incident noticed that multiple passersby had not helped the elderly woman despite her sitting on the ground and bleeding from the head.

Now, it has been revealed that the elderly woman passed away today (December 30).

Malaysian Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil took to his Facebook page to share the announcement.

He wrote, “My condolences to the family and friends of Lim Foong Mei – the victim of a robbery at Jalan Limau Manis, Bangsar, in October.”

“I was able to visit the deceased at PPUM after (her passing) with the Brickfields District Police Chief, ACP Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood. May the deceased’s family be given strength and fortitude to face this difficult time.”

Did the snatch thief cause her death?

According to a report by Utusan Malaysia, the police will conduct a review to determine whether the death of the elderly woman is related to the injuries suffered during the snatch theft incident.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Rusdi Mohd. Isa shared that the elderly woman had been discharged from the hospital before she passed away.

The police said that the snatch thief was charged in court previously, but a new charge under murder may be filed following the elderly woman’s death.

“The suspect has now been charged in court for the offence (the incident in October). Further action will be recommended based on the results of the investigation (into the woman’s death),” he added.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the woman’s family and loved ones.
