The Ministry of Education (MOE) has reiterated its stance against reintroducing the Ujian Pencapain Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination despite calls from several parties, especially from parents, for it to be reinstated.
Its Minister, Fahdlina Sidek asserted that MOE is firm in its stance on not reviving UPSR and instead urged all parents to focus on the 2027 School Curriculum Implementation Survey.
As reported by BERNAMA, Fadhlina elaborated that the aforementioned survey is meant to develop the new school curriculum to ensure a brighter future in education.
The Education Minister further asserted,
“I urge all parents to focus on the (2027 School Curriculum Implementation Survey) roadshow as we want the widest possible engagement to obtain the input to enhance the nation’s education system.
“For now, we want to focus on a holistic assessment for our children, particularly for their overall development to ensure strengthening their character and other aspects,”
UPSR was previously an examination for Standard 6 students as a benchmark for achievement at the primary school level.
However, the government abolished UPSR exams in 2021 as a result of the engagement sessions with various parties following its cancellation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
