Many Malaysians want to work in the government as there is a pension and it is seen as a “stable job”. However, one Malaysian shared their story of how their mother had gotten disappointed in them just because they are not a civil servant.

In a message to the Twitter confession account ConfessTweetMY, a Malaysian talked about how their mother has been giving them the cold shoulder.

To give a little background, the Malaysian said that they took a variable loan under JPA for their education, which means that if they chose to work under the government, their loan will be converted into a scholarship. If not, they will need to pay back half of the loan.

At this point in time, the confessor is already 2 years into their private sector job and is currently earning a basic of RM5k a month. If there are side projects, their salary can easily reach RM10-17k per month.

As they took the JPA loan, it is compulsory for them to go for a civil servant interview. During that interview, they tried to look dumb in order to be rejected, however, that plan backfired and they were offered a position.

That government job has a salary of only RM3k which is not enough to cover the confessor’s monthly commitments.

“I can’t cut anything off as they are loans and there is not enough to save. My siblings are all working as civil servants so my mother wants me to be one as well.”

So, they rejected the offer.

House Keys Loan

To show her dissatisfaction, the confessor’s mum has been giving them the cold shoulder and returned the RM2k allowance month after month.

Now, they do not know how to make their mother happy again and this whole situation is making them sad.

Call for help

Many netizens suggested the confessor to make a very clear comparison between working in the private sector and for the government to their mother to solve this problem.

One said, “List your monthly commitments and how much you save per month. Present that to your mother and ask her to make the comparison herself. It’s not glamourous to work for the government anymore, maybe back then it is.”

Civil Servant Job

Another netizen also asked for the confessor to talk about the benefits of their current job as some parents do not know the benefits given by private sector companies.

“Parents see government jobs as stable and there is pension as well so the confessor needs to give them confidence by telling them the benefits as well.”

What other advice will you give the confessor? Let us know in the comments.
