To some people, a movie in the cinema without munching on something just doesn’t feel right. Popcorn and a variety kind of snacks come to the rescue but what if you crave something more? Something heavier?

While TGV Cinemas in Malaysia allows its patrons to enjoy gourmet food during the movie session through its Indulge Experience, a cinema in China defied the odds by serving hotpot to its patrons!

Yes, the hotpot is just like the one you have in restaurants with the hot soup, vegetables, and meat but this time, you can dip your food into the hot, simmering soup in the cinemas while catching up on your movie.

The video and pictures of cinema patrons in Sichuan, China enjoying their hotpot in the cold theatre with dimmed lights circulated after they were initially shared on Weibo, a Chinese social media. The picture below shows the audience waiting for the movie to commence and their soup pots to boil.

When the movie The Expend4bles started, the audience started to savor the food. A hot food in a cold room sounds like a perfect combination!

How much do you need to pay for the experience? According to a comment in the post, the price per hotpot meal is RMB188 (approximately RM123). For a movie enthusiast who wants to try out a new experience, the price is probably worth a try.

Hotpot sounds good but what about focusing on the movie?

The idea of a hotpot in cinema, however, has received mixed reactions from both netizens in Malaysia and China. Some are fascinated by the idea while others don’t fancy having to divert their attention to the movie and hotpot.

“Please make this available throughout China!”

“Hotpot cinema? To the rest of the cinemas in China, please make it available!”

“Why hotpot? Are they running out of popcorn?”

To the movie enthusiasts, or if you frequently visit the cinemas, do you fancy the idea of a hotpot in the theatre? Just make sure your phones are safe and not dipped in the simmering soup when you have your attention on the screen!
