Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob just announced that Rapid KL has no authority to change the rules of social distancing and allow 100% capacity on all its public transport services as this is not approved by the National Security Council.

During the live press conference today, the Minister said, “Rapid rail has no authority to change the regulations that have been set by the government when the guided SOPs specify that there needs to be social distancing on travel services. They can’t change what has been finalised by the government.”

The Minister said this in response to the question of whether other travel services will follow Rapid rail’s decision to stop limiting their capacity as the rail’s CEO said in a statement earlier today: “social distancing markers in the trains and stations have already been removed.”

Ismail Sabri said, “Rapid Rail has to request MKN for permission first and they can’t announce it to the public on their own. We understand the problem that when social distancing is enforced, it raises their costs because there are less passengers on all railways. But when we place the 60% limit on all passengers, airways suffer too.”

“They cannot take action without informing the government. This is wrong. They do not have the National Security Council’s approval,” said the Senior Minister, firmly.

Looks like social distancing will remain as per usual, guys!
