If you think the name ‘Gang 24’ sounds familiar, it’s because a few months ago, a Datuk who was shot dead by his bodyguard was related to the gang – the Datuk was in fact one of the big bosses in Gang 24!
The gang’s number 2, Datuk M or Datuk Muda, was shot dead by his bodyguard and the group came to light after a video of a man being brutally whipped for bad-mouthing the deceased Datuk was circulated on Whatsapp.
However, just recently, the alleged top boss of Gang 24 was caught by policemen in Penang Island in a casino on January 28, 2017, The Star reported.
The police called it the Ops Chantas Khas where they also nabbed 28 other top leaders from the same gang from other areas of Penang. Most of them were in their mid 20’s and 30’s.
The boss was a ‘Datuk Seri’ businessman and he was caught with more than RM100,000 in cash and gambling chips on him.
But the epic part was, the police actually waited for these gangsters to enjoy spending time with their family on Chinese New Year first before catching them all.
Apparently, this Datuk Seri was caught several times in the past 20 years for gang fighting, extortion, and many other crimes.
“He had been on the ‘radar’ of the police for some time, after investigations showed that he was the ‘number one’ boss of Gang 24, especially active in the northern region.”
Bukit Aman police believe they have crippled the gang when they arrested those big shots. However, the police do not plan on stopping there as there are still a few of the gang leaders running around.
Currently, the authorities are in the midst of tracking them down.
These gangsters who were caught will be put under a 28-day detention period most likely in the Simpang Renggam Rehabilitation Centre in Johor.
