No, this is not a pair of bootleg Converses.
We all know that a pair of converse looks better when it’s slightly worn in, but the newly introduced “dirty” Converse shoes has gotten netizens questioning.
Namely, the Chuck Taylor All Star Basic Wash. These shoes have an “aged look” that basically looks like you have worn the sneakers for 2 years without washing them. Even the shoelaces are covered in black and grey marks for the aged appearance.
“Skip the break-in period. A dirty wash treatment gives these classic Chucks a vintage look, straight out of the box.” That’s the description on the website for this pair of classic Chucks.
The shoes are available in the colours Navy and Grey. There is also a high cut version of the same dirty wash sneakers in Grey and Black colours. Priced at £70 (approximately RM380) and £85 (approximately RM460) respectively, these grimy shoes are in fact more expensive than the classic, cleaner versions.
Criticisms sparked when a United Kingdom journalist, Micha Frazer-Carroll tweeted about the seemingly muddy shoes:

“That’s actually double the amount of dirty you’d want your Converse to be…”
“There’s something unbearable about the idea of eventually going to clean these and knowing that there is a layer of painted on artificial dirt that you can never remove” she stated.
One person commented, “Basic wash? This is no wash? Absolute absence of wash”, while another said that “sometimes things that are expensive are worse”.
What do you think about this? Would you buy yourself a pair of “dirty” Converse?
