Blackpink’s latest single, Pink Venom was released last week (19 August) on YouTube, and as of today (August 26), it has garnered nearly 200 million views!
However, fans of the song may not notice that parts of Pink Venom greatly resembled other pop songs from the 90s and the early 2000s.
Recently, Jermaine, who is an American producer based in San Francisco took to his Instagram account and shared that he thinks that Blackpink’s Pink Venom sounds similar to 3 pop songs from the past.
The American said that parts of Pink Venom either sounded similar to or even mirrors the lyrics of 3 songs which are, Kick In The Door by The Notorious B.I.G., Rihanna’s Pon De Replay and 50 Cent’s P.I.M.P.
“Kick in the door, Waving the Coco”
The opening phrase of the song, sung by Jennie sounds similar to Kick In The Door, performed by The Notorious B.I.G. The song was released more than a decade ago, dating back to 1997.
A phrase from Kick In The Door, which is “Kick in the door, waving the four-four” greatly resembles the phrase sung by Jennie in Pink Venom. Coincidence?
“One by One then Two by Two”
Another phrase, which was sung by Lisa mirrored the lyrics from Rihanna’s Pon De Replay, one of the tracks that made it to the billboard in 2005. Not only that but the music in this part even sounds similar.
“Makes no sense you gotta get a dollar out of me”
The third, which was also uttered by Lisa, closely resembles the lyrics from 50 cent’s P.I.M.P. which was released back in 2003.
Coincidence or pure duplication?
Is everything coincidental or is it pure duplication? No one knows for sure but since Jermaine’s analysis of Blackpink’s Pink Venom, netizens have expressed their shock over the resemblance of the latest Korean pop song to the 3 songs from the past.
Some users pointed out the lack of effort in coming up with something new in the creation of music.
