Notwithstanding some key traditions, the way Malaysians celebrate Chinese New Year is definitely different from how we did decades ago. But what matters most is the effort we put to spend time with our loved ones, regardless of how modern our celebration ends up being. Here are a few ways that 2022 will be the year we celebrate CNY differently:
1. Gifting cool-as-heck NFTs this CNY
NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are all the rage right now, which is unsurprising – they’re unique and are a new form of artwork in the digital era that we can be proud of owning. Now we understand why people liked to collect paintings by Picasso. ?
Since NFTs are so hot right now, wouldn’t it make an amazing gift to give to someone, even cooler still if it’s CNY-themed? The ones that come to our mind right now are the Tiger Beer x Pestle & Mortar Clothing (PMC) collection, known as The Tiger Archives. These are the first ever NFTs to feature vintage Tiger artwork ingrained into the blockchain, and each artwork is uniquely drawn fully by hand!
Plus, these NFTs will unlock a series of perks throughout 2022, including exclusive merchandise and curated experiences by PMC. The Tiger Archives NFT collection will launch on 30 January, with 30% of the proceeds going towards supporting local musicians, artists and street food chefs via Tiger’s UNCAGE platform. A win-win for everyone!
2. Take IG-worthy pics with CNY murals and Kwai Chai Hong
By NesTwo, at Good Timing Food Village KL
It’s an annual modern tradition to witness the swarm of CNY #OOTD pics every year without fail – usually somewhere that’s cool or aesthetic. (We feel attacked!) What if we did something a little different this time, like taking our Outfit of the Day pic in front of a contemporary CNY mural?
By Skywork, at Seremban.
To spread the CNY cheer throughout Malaysia, Tiger Beer engaged with a few local artists to create exclusive Roar Together art murals so that we can enjoy even more Insta-worthy moments to welcome the Year of the Tiger! Here’s the list of locations you can find the Tiger murals at, including:
- Good Timing Food Village, Kuala Lumpur (NesTwo)
- Restoran Xin Shi Ji Court, Negeri Sembilan (Skywork)
- East Coast Food Court, Sabah (Wilson Ng)
- Pisa Corner Cafe C/O Spice Pisa Cafe, Penang (Mr. Teh)
- Pusat Makanan Gunung Rapat Enam Enam, Ipoh (Eric Lai)
- Kambraduk Kopitiam, Melaka (Drewfunk)
Don’t forget to also check out Kwai Chai Hong’s Live Wild & Prosper urban art at Petaling Street too! Ends 15 February.
3. Check out innovative CNY art installations at Pavilion KL by famous local artists
Talitha. at the Tiger Beer CNY 2022 media launch.
Learning and art appreciation never stop, even during CNY. Instead of watching blockbuster Chinese movies or playing cards, why not check out some artwork with your loved ones this year?
From 10 January onwards, you and your family can head to the main entrance of Connection, Pavilion KL to check out Tiger’s “Roar Together” art installations, created by three up-and-coming artists of diverse backgrounds – Thomas Powell, Sheena Liam and Pamela Tan.
4. Giving designer ang paus to snazz up the prosperity!
Instead of giving your loved ones plain red ang paus, wouldn’t it be awesome to gift them ones that are so stylish it feels like a waste to throw them away? It’d be so flattering if they actually kept them as collectibles. ?
In fact, these collectible Year of the Tiger ang paus by Tiger Beer are pretty cool! We definitely would keep them if we ever received them. The good news, is that it’s actually quite simple to get them: purchase RM88 worth of HEINEKEN Malaysia products at selected outlets* in Pavilion KL, and you have some gorgeous tiger ang paus to share the prosperity with, while stocks last.
*Participating outlets include Barbeque Nation, Hakata Ippudo, Michelangelo’s, Quivo, Rocku Yakiniku, The Barn and YuanLaoSi Hotpot.
5. Glam it up with special CNY AR filters for IG Story
In a world where we post Instagram Stories to remember pivotal moments of our lives, it seems fitting for us to include CNY-themed stickers and AR filters to liven up our memories, right?
If you’re wondering what filters to use, you can head on over to Connection, Pavilion KL to find various QR codes throughout the area – and even Tiger Beer cans and bottles! – to try out Tiger’s Augmented Reality (AR) Roaring Greetings.
You can interact virtually with a Tiger and even generate inspiring CNY greetings that you can share with friends and family! Ends 15 February.
Wow! So many new & trendy ways to celebrate the Year of the Tiger!
