Singapore is a pretty FINE country. You kinda get fined for almost anything and everything over there.
But who would have known that being annoying was also a crime?!
On April 2, 2017, there was a major MRT disruption in Singapore due to a possible bombing case. Someone had left their luggage bag at Hougang MRT station and so it had to be shut down.
Singapore, being the efficient country that they are unlike Malaysia, barred anyone from entering the station and ensured that all MRT trains did not stop there.
They even provided FREE bus rides in this time of crisis.
Between 2.40PM and 4PM, the whole area was shut down as authorities barged into the station to investigate the unattended luggage bag.
Later, they found the bag to be completely harmless and it belonged to 39-year-old Chinese national, Wang Jianpo, Mothership reported. They arrested him at 4.35PM.
On May 17, 2017, Jianpo was charged in court for causing annoyance to the public!
If convicted, he has to pay up to SGD1,000 (approx. RM3,108) fine.
So yeah, moral of the story is… don’t annoy Singaporeans or you’ll be criminally charged.
Also, always be attentive of your belongings. Leaving luggage bags lying around unattended in public places like that can understandably cause a major concern. You DON’T want to end up in Singapore’s court.
