A couple of weeks ago, a viral Facebook post sparked widespread outrage among netizens when they found out that a young girl was forced to pull out from a national chess tournament because tournament officials thought her attire was “seductive”.
Shortly after the news spread, the Tournament Director, Sophian A. Yusuf, spoke about how he wasn’t the one who noticed the girl’s dress and broke down in tears because of all the negative reactions from netizens.
Sophian stated that he was thinking of taking legal action against the girl’s coach, Kaushal, who posted about the alleged incident on Facebook.
Now, the Tournament Director recently hired a lawyer to pursue legal action against the coach, according to The Star.
Sophian’s lawyer, Mohd Harris Abdullah, has recently stated that the length of the young girl’s dress was above knee level and therefore violated the tournament’s dress code.
Mohd Harris then went on to say that the photo of the girl’s attire in the Facebook post was doctored.
“We have a photograph of her taken during the tournament which is completely different from the photograph on the Facebook post.”
“They pulled down the skirt and then took the photograph.”
Sophian and his lawyer will be filing a suit against Kaushal for allegedly making defamatory statements. He is also thinking of filing lawsuits against three other people who have commented on the incident.
