Just yesterday, it was reported that a Muslim eatery owner had received threats of boycott after it was discovered that she had been feeding stray dogs. Well, in a turn of events, her business has never been busier!
After the eatery owner’s response to the boycott threats had gone viral, many took to social media to call for solidarity and support of her business, causing a flood of customers to show up at her restaurant in Johor Bahru.
Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid was among those who highlighted that the restaurant owner should be praised for her kind actions of feeding stray dogs rather than condemned and boycotted.
Business has never been better!
One netizen, O Tak Tan, took to the 吃的平台 Facebook page to share his experience at her restaurant following this viral incident, where her restaurant has been full of customers and her food is selling out in the blink of an eye!
He wrote, “This Malay lady faced a boycott because she was considered ‘unclean’ by her community members for feeding stray dogs. As a dog lover, I immediately thought of supporting her with my own actions. When I arrived, I saw that the place was full of Chinese people.”
“This sister’s husband was busy chatting with each table (of customers). He said that since 11:30am, people kept pouring in like schools of fish. Among the customers, 99% were Chinese, which was unprecedented. He felt it was weird and asked a few customers about this. They showed him posts from Facebook and said that they came to support them. He said that they were very moved by this.”
The eatery ran out of ingredients by 2pm
Due to the influx of customers, their menu items sold out fast, leaving the eatery’s kitchen without ingredients by 2pm.
“So, he had to apologise to the customers (who arrived after that). He said that the customers said ‘tak apa, esok datang lagi (it’s okay, we’ll come again tomorrow)‘, and later brought ingredients from home,”
“At 4:30pm, there were only smoked beef fried rice and smoked lamb fried rice. Customers who came were not picky, they mainly just wanted to support them,” he added.
O Tak Tan also pointed out that the restaurant owners are very caring and even dressed up sheep in costumes to interact with customers!
“Although the food here is a bit expensive, it is delicious and worth the price!”
