MyEG has just announced on Bursa Malaysia that it received approval for automated driving license tests. The approval was from the Road Transport Department aka JPJ.

This e-Testing system will be a proof of concept (“POC”) that assesses the competencies of candidates.

No further details were revealed except that a test-run of the POC will take place for two months, 1 December 2021 to 1 February 2022. During which time, they will see if the system is suitable for commercialisation.

What does this mean to candidates?

  • No more guaranteed pass packages
  • Less human interaction (introverts, we’ve got you covered)

Actually this e-testing was first proposed back in 2018 by Anthony Loke, the then-transport minister. His main aim was to stop Kopi O licences. He wanted to stop candidates from bribing instructors to pass their test.

In January 2020, JPJ announced that this system will be implemented in June 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, everything came to a halt as driving schools couldn’t operate due to MCO.

Are we hoping that this plan pans out or do we prefer it the old school way? Please drop your comments in the comments section.
