The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) confirmed today (27 February) that an influential figure is allegedly attempting a coup d’état.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khalid Bin Hj. Ismail stated that police have received a report on the matter and that thorough investigations are currently underway.

Influential figure and international media involvement
In an official statement this morning, Khalid noted that the alleged attempt to overthrow the government involves a prominent local figure and an international media agency.
He confirmed that the probe is being conducted by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (D5) of the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman.
The investigation falls under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which covers activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy. If found guilty, perpetrators could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

“We are conducting investigations into allegations of attempts to topple the government and sabotage the country’s stability,” the statement read.
The IGP advised the public to refrain from speculating on the case while the police complete their enquiries, citing the need to respect the principles of criminal justice.
