Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, subject to certain conditions.
In a statement by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department today, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, granted the conditional pardon to Najib.
According to an official media statement released by the Legal Affairs Division of the Primepei’s Department (BHEUU) today (18 September 2026), the decision was finalised during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.
The meeting, held earlier today, announced that His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVII, Sultan Ibrahim, has consented to grant a conditional pardon to Najib.
Subject to RM50 million fine
It said that the pardon is subject to Najib paying a fine of RM50 million and complying with the conditions imposed.
“Should he fail to comply with any of the conditions, this conditional clemency will be revoked and he shall immediately continue serving the remainder of his sentence in prison,” the statement said.
House arrest to continue until 2028
Under the decision, Najib is permitted to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until 23 August 2028, provided that he fulfils the conditions attached to the clemency. The decision was made during the Pardons Board meeting held in Putrajaya on 18 September as reported by Kosmo!.
The announcement comes after Najib had previously received a reduction in his prison sentence and fine following a decision by the Pardons Board in 2024. He was originally sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million after being convicted in the SRC International case. The sentence was subsequently reduced to six years, while the fine was reduced to RM50 million as previously reported by World of Buzz.
The latest decision concerns how he will serve the remaining portion of his sentence, subject to the conditions imposed by the Pardons Board.
