Being away from home on your mum’s birthday can be difficult, especially when you wish you could be there to celebrate with her. But one Malaysian woman found a thoughtful way to make her mother feel special from miles away, with a little help from a restaurant team who went far beyond what she had initially asked for.
The heartwarming story was recently shared on Threads by @_eyamirahh, who posted screenshots of her conversation with the restaurant alongside photos of the birthday dinner prepared for her parents.

She asked the restaurant for a small favour
In her Threads post, the daughter explained that she could not return home for her mother’s birthday as she was busy, but still wanted to make sure her mother felt celebrated.
She said her 73-year-old father and mother would be travelling to Sama Sama Cuisine in Muar on their own. However, she was concerned they might have trouble finding the restaurant, as it is tucked slightly further in and not easily visible from the main road.
So, she contacted the restaurant to explain her situation, telling them that she would arrange a Grab ride to take her parents there. She then asked if the team could assist them when they arrived, including helping them place their order as the restaurant uses a QR code ordering system, which she thought might be difficult for her parents to navigate.

She also asked if the team could ensure her parents got home safely after their meal, while she would handle the payment remotely.
What happened next, however, went far beyond what she had expected.
“Dear @SamaSamaCuisine, I only asked for a small favour for my mother’s birthday, but what the restaurant did really touched me.”
“This year, I couldn’t go home to celebrate my mother’s birthday, so I tried to think of a way to still make her feel celebrated even though I’m far away,” she wrote in her post.
Restaurant goes above and beyond
After discussing her request with the team, the restaurant told her they would take care of everything from A to Z. Rather than simply helping her parents with their order, the team offered to arrange the birthday celebration, prepare the decorations, pick up her parents, assist them throughout dinner, and send them home safely afterwards.
Initially, she was told that she would only need to pay for the food.
“As for Sama Sama Cuisine, the team was really helpful and accommodating from the beginning. Since I was arranging everything remotely, I had to trust them to help bring the whole thing together, and they were very understanding of what I wanted.”
“They helped coordinate everything and made sure the surprise went smoothly on the day,” she said.

She then said she only wanted her mother to feel celebrated despite being unable to return home, and the restaurant team helped make that possible. Her parents also apparently had plenty of good things to say about the staff after the dinner, with her mother and father repeatedly praising them for being kind and helpful.
Shortly after her parents returned home safely, they called the daughter to share how touched they were by the experience.
“My mum was really touched when she found out that I had arranged everything for her even though I was far away. She was surprised, but I think what made her happiest was knowing that I still made the effort to celebrate her birthday despite not being there in person.”
“Seeing her reaction honestly made everything worth it. I was still working at the time and felt touched hearing my parents thanking me for making them happy,” she told WORLD OF BUZZ

But the surprise did not end there
Just when she thought the arrangements were complete, the daughter received another unexpected update. When she was ready to settle the bill, the restaurant told her that she did not need to pay.
After everything the team had already done for her parents, she said this was the last thing she expected.

She then thanked the entire team for treating her parents with kindness and helping her celebrate her mother’s birthday from afar.
“You didn’t just help me arrange a birthday dinner. You helped a daughter celebrate her mother from miles away.”
The daughter also encouraged others to support Sama Sama Cuisine, saying that she had personally eaten there with a friend before and wanted her parents to experience the food too.
She added that she hoped to return to the restaurant with her whole family in the future.
