Previously, a video went viral showing a young girl allegedly being kicked by a man believed to be her father while they were at a restaurant in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) later confirmed that a member of the public had lodged a report on 12 September, prompting an investigation to track down the man in question.

Malaysian soldier pleads not guilty to charge of allegedly abusing daughter

The suspect was subsequently arrested after turning himself in at the Pengkalan Chepa Police Station last Sunday (13 September).

In a recent development, the 40-year-old soldier was charged at the Sessions Court today (17 September) over the alleged abuse of his five-year-old daughter at a restaurant on Jalan Kuala Krai last Friday (11 September).

The incident reportedly took place at around 10:55 PM, when he allegedly kicked the girl, an act that was also captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV). He pleaded not guilty and claimed trial after the charge was read before Judge Zulkifli Ablah, as reported by Berita Harian.

The accused was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and faces a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment for up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.

Accused seeks lower bail, citing no history of abusing his family

Deputy Public Prosecutor Syazalia Che Suhaimin did not offer bail, citing the seriousness of the case and noting that the victim is the accused’s biological daughter.

However, the accused’s lawyer requested that bail be granted at a lower amount, highlighting that his client is a soldier who needs to support his three children and wife, who has cancer and chronic kidney disease. He also said that his client has no previous record and had never abused his family before.

The court later granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety, with additional conditions requiring the accused to report to a nearby police station every two months, surrender his passport, and refrain from contacting or interfering with the victim and witnesses.

The next mention of the case has been set for 22 October, 2026.
