There is a certain degree of apprehension that comes with sending a child to a nanny because there is no way of telling whether they will take good care of the child or straight up cause abuse.

A mother in Ampang Jaya had the fright of her life when she found injuries on her baby daughter when picking her up from her nanny’s house.

The 8-month-old baby was under the care of a nanny in her home in Taman Putra.

According to Ampang Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak, the nanny, the 43-year-old woman was arrested yesterday and remanded for 4 days until this Wednesday after the victim’s mother made a police report last Friday.

“Based on the report, the victim’s mother claimed to have discovered bite marks on her daughter’s face and twist marks on both ears. The victim’s mother then took her daughter to Ampang Hospital for an examination,” he said in a statement today.

Mohamad Farouk said, as a result of the investigation, it was found that the suspect has 6 other children aged between 3 months and 2 years under her care.

“The suspect also has 2 biological children who live together, namely a boy and a girl aged 16 and 8 years respectively. At the time of the incident, the suspect allegedly left the victim home alone with the other children and went out. The victim’s injuries are believed to be caused by another child at the home who bit her face,” he said.

He said the case is being investigated in accordance with Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for abusing, neglecting, abandoning or exposing a child to physical injury.

If convicted, one can be fined not more than RM20,000 or imprisoned for not more than 10 years or both.

Poor mother and child! Hopefully, the incident is nothing too serious.
