The FIFA Puskás Award is an award given to the most aesthetically significant, or “most beautiful”, goal of the calendar year.

As it is officially the end of June, FIFA did a little recap of the beautiful goals that they saw in the month and surprise, a Malaysian footballer’s goal was featured in their Twitter thread.

The goal belongs to Safawi Rasid who plays for Malaysia Super League club Johor Darul Ta’zim, and the Malaysian national team.

This goal was during the Malaysia VS Solomon Islands friendlies on 14 June where Malaysia won 4 to 1.

In the caption of the clip, FIFA said that Safawi’s goal showed “unbelievable skills”.

According to Harian Metro, the secretary of the Football Association of Malaysia, Noor Azman Rahman, has said that they are considering sending Safawi’s goal to be considered for the 2023 Puskas Award.

“Concerning Safawi’s goal, I’ll go back to KL and the Technical committee will evaluate whether the goal should be considered for Puskas.”

In 2016, Kedah-born footballer who played for Penang, Faiz Subri, became the first Malaysian to have ever received the Puskas Award.

Well, we hope that the FAM will be sending that goal to be considered for Puskas. It certainly is too beautiful to not do so.
