When a couple gets married, they’d usually look forward to spending their first night together as husband and wife. However, it looks like both these newlyweds may have been disappointed by how their first night turned out to be.

That’s because the groom from Alor Setar, Kedah actually ended up spending the night in jail!

According to The Star, the 35-year-old man landed himself in the lock-up after his wedding reception because he was helping one of his friends, who was wanted by police for several crimes, escape arrest. The bride must’ve not been too happy. When the cops arrived at a hotel’s ballroom in Jalan Putra on Sunday (10th December) at 10pm to look for the wanted man, the groom reportedly distracted the cops by creating a diversion.

Kota Setar district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin said that a group of about 40 men, whom allegedly comprised the groom and his friends, gathered around and obstructed the police in order to hinder them from carrying out the arrest.

“A scuffle took place and the groom threw a glass at my men, injuring one of the officers on his left hand.”

“During the commotion, the wanted man fled using the back door of the hotel,” he added.

Soon after this incident transpired, the cops managed to capture the groom at his house in the early hours of the morning just yesterday (11th December).

During this arrest, another commotion reportedly broke out as well, and the police had to call for back-up.

Of course, in this smartphone day and age, his family members decided to record the entire scene, and the police believe that the video will soon become viral. Nevertheless, ACP Mohd Rozi said that this form of “intimidation” would not prevent them from carrying out their responsibilities.

He explained, “Those who break the law or try to stop the police from carrying out their duties will have to face the law.”

Looks like it’s best to mind your own business and stay out of other people’s trouble! Especially if you’re just getting married…
