There’s a reason why someone’s hair is called their crowning glory. It’s the first thing that most people will notice about you as soon as they make eye contact with you. However, in Malaysia’s humid unpredictable weather, it really can be a chore to constantly look after your hair. So we went ahead and compiled these simple easy hair care hacks to make your life a little easier…

1. Squeeze the excess moisture out of your hair

When you step out of the shower and your hair is dripping wet, don’t vigorously rub your hair in the towel. The friction you create will weaken your tresses and make them more susceptible to breakage!

Instead, wrap your hair in the towel and squeeze the water out as much as you can. Do remember to do it gently; pat, don’t rub! This prevents the cuticle from opening up and at the same time, it will be less frizzy too.

2. Pump up the volume by blow-drying your hair upside down

We all long for beautiful hair full of volume but sometimes, our hair just ends being up flat and lifeless, no matter how we style it.

For a quick fix, blast through your hair with your hair dryer upside down. This way, you’ll be letting the hair go in the direction that you want it in, upwards! Which will give you that luscious volume you always desired.

3. Give your hair some time before drying it

A lot of breakage and damage happens because we tend to mess with our hair when it’s not exactly in its strongest condition. This is usually when it’s really wet. So, give it a short break before you start blow-drying or styling it!

4. Use a toothbrush to tame baby hairs

No matter how much we pat our hair down, sometimes there will always be baby hairs that somehow manage to get loose. Grab a toothbrush, get some hairspray on it and brush it on your flyaways to help keep it down for that sleek and polished look!

5. Massaging your scalp may increase your hair thickness

Okay, this one may sound weird but a study done in 2016 suggested that a four-minute scalp massage done every day for 24 weeks resulted in increased hair thickness.

Doing it every day may be a little bit on the tough side for most of us but if you can do it every now and again, it can help lubricate and condition the scalp, and even strengthen your roots.

6. Use that brush, even at night

We all give our hair a brush in the morning, so why not at night too? Giving it a final brush before we head to bed ensures that all the tangles and knots from the day are dealt with when we head to bed, which means less tangles when we wake up in the morning too.

And since brushing from the root can cause damage to your hair, do remember to brush it starting from the bottom of your hair and work your way up.

7. Taking a cold shower will do your hair good

Yeap, seriously. Sure, it feels nice when you take a long hot shower to relax and there’s nothing wrong with that but hot water isn’t really good for your hair. On the other hand, cold water hydrates your hair and helps to seal in the nutrients from the shampoo and conditioner.

If you really like your water warm when you shampoo your hair, make the final rinse a cold one to still reap the benefits of softer, more nourished locks post-shower.

8. Go natural with your shampoo

A lot of the shampoos and conditioners that we use are often packed with chemicals that aren’t actually good for your hair in the long run. If possible, use a shampoo that contains more natural ingredients such as argan oil to help keep your hair sleek and healthy.

This is one of the reasons why finding the right shampoo for your hair can be quite a challenge. You want something that not only smells good but works well too without compromising your hair’s health. Unfortunately, with a lot of available shampoos in the market, it’s almost impossible for Malaysians to find one that does the trick. Thankfully, LUX Luminique is a brand new line of silicone-free shampoo made with natural oils and ingredients.

The LUX Luminique line does not use any silicone at all and pampers your hair well. It also tends to your hair with organic natural essence and uses ingredients that ensures your hair remains untangled and smooth for longer.

And since we have different hair types with different needs, this range comes in three different variants to offer tailored TLC for our crowning glory.

  • Damage Repair – This one uses Damascus Rose oil and Argan oil, offering an aromatic floral touch while it penetrates and repairs damage right from your hair core. It also nourishes your hair and scalp too.
  • Relax & Smooth – Besides being formulated with natural oils from Eucalyptus Leaves Essence to cleanse your scalp and leave you feeling relaxed, there’s also Aloe Vera extract, Green Tea extract and Organic Jojoba oil, which make a super-conditioning combo that’s particularly great for dry hair.
  • Volume Shine – This variant incorporates natural Macadamia oil and Almond oil to nourish and strengthen your hair for both gorgeous volume and shine!

Whatever your hair needs, you know you can trust the LUX Luminique line to keep your tresses in tip-top condition. Find out more here!
