According to Jobstreet, a pharmacist in Malaysia makes around Rm6,300 to RM7,500 on average. With that figure staring at you, one might wonder how tough the job scope can be.

Every career has its difficulties and challenges but according to a Malaysian X (formally Twitter) user @shxhrxlxr, a pharmacist job is just a walk in the park. It is as simple as packing medicines at work and calling it a day. With that task, a pharmacist easily makes himself/herself RM5,000.

We’ll get to a pharmacist’s job scope in a bit but for now, let’s take a look at why the X user has such a perception towards pharmacists.

The X user was responding to a video of a local pharmacist who shared a short “work vlog” at her work, from travelling to work to donning her uniform, and lastly, selecting and packing medicines.

Of course, that doesn’t mean what you see online reflects the entire truth. To the user, however, the job scope of a pharmacist is simple.

“A pharmacist’s job is super easy. Pack the meds into a plastic bag, and you get RM5,000 at the end of month.”

According to the Malaysian Pharmacist Society, while a pharmacist deals with medicines, it’s not all about packing. A pharmacist’s workplace is not merely behind the counter and some of them are involved in drug research, procurement, storage, distribution, and many other responsibilities that are not shown in that video.

“One wrong prescription and you’re done”

Netizens, on the other hand, did not appreciate how a pharmacist’s job is considered “easy money”, and many of them explained that there are hidden challenges behind the task that appears menial to the social media user.

“One wrong prescription or wrong dosage can lead to death or at least, worsen the illness. You’ll get your license revoked or fired, not to mention getting sued by the family.”

“Why would she show you the tough part? People would think she was asking for sympathy.”

“She merely showed you 1 small part of her job. She hasn’t even shown the part where she’s in a clinical ward or when she’s doing clinical data repository. But you won’t even get it if we explain, right?”

“Pharmacists will not be happy with this. One wrong prescription, and you’ll end up in jail.”

“Good to see people explaining behind the scenes of a pharmacist. I can tell you, most people are not seeing the other 80% of what a pharmacist does, especially those who work in the logistic department or research on drugs.”

“If it’s that easy, why don’t you work as one?”

Do we have any pharmacist friends here? What else did we miss about your job scope? Feel free to share with us!
