Safety is the most important aspect to consider in everything that we do. Without big corporations taking it into consideration, we would constantly get hurt – even to the point of losing our lives.

This is why a recent report revealing that 40 high rise residential buildings in Kuala Lumpur are “ticking time bombs” has caused widespread worry.

Coconuts KL reported that these buildings are still occupied, but are all completely UNSAFE people to stay in!

One of the apartments with the highest number of violations is located in Pantai Dalam with 224 notices from the Fire Department. The building reportedly does not fulfill the criteria for having a proper fire prevention system.

They have inadequate fire extinguishers, broken water sprinklers, blocked or locked fire exits, and faulty alarm systems.

Not only that, there are hundreds of residential buildings in similar conditions all over Malaysia!

The Director of Malaysia’s Fire and Rescue Department, Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim told Berita Harian,

“The fire team’s inspection found that a lot of these cases (of destroyed fire safety equipment) are due to irresponsible residents and management.”

“They did not ensure that all these equipment are complete and functional in the event of an emergency.”

There are a total of 1,688 notices from the fire department to these buildings from January to May this year alone. All of these structures are highlighted as high risks for fires.

The Fire and Rescue department reported an average of 5,000 fire incidents annually. In the first half of 2016 alone, there were almost 300 cases of fires reported in residential buildings alone.

After the Grenfell Tower in London caught fire and killed 80 residents, our local fire department decided to amp up the safety here. Well, it’s good that they’re being more cautious now!
