What would you do if you were to find a hidden camera in the hotel or homestay that you’re staying at?

That was what happened to a Chinese tourist who had visited Sabah on September 6 (Wednesday).

Taking to XiaoHongShu, the tourist, 珍美BEAUTY, shared how they discovered the hidden camera in a power outlet.

They wrote, “A camera was found in a Malaysian travel homestay. Is it safe to travel to Malaysia?”

“We arrived at the Kota Kinabalu Airport at 2am on September 6. We waited until 3am before arriving at the Airbnb. I asked my partner to check if there was camera. Fortunately, we were not afraid of tiredness. We actually found it in the socket opposite the bed.”

Using their phone’s flashlight, they noticed a mirror inside the socket. So, they disassembled the socket’s panel and found a hidden camera inside, pointing towards the bed.

“Girls, please pay attention. The one in the middle of the 2 USB ports is the camera! It is very similar to the camera on your mobile phone! The camera is facing the bed.”

After trying to reach out to the owner of the Airbnb and not getting a response, they decided to block the camera’s view with a tissue and rest for the night.

“The next day, I contacted Airbnb and they asked me to leave immediately. We checked out and checked into another hotel. Airbnb here is really good and deserves a thumbs up,” they added.

Soon after, they also reported the incident to the police.

“I went to the police station at 5pm on September 7 (Thursday) and wrote the report until 6pm.”

They were called back to the police station at 7pm after officers had contacted the owner of the Airbnb, and the tourists were informed that the owner claimed they were trying to run from paying for their stay.

“Am I going to torture myself by paying him 400 yuan (RM256.85) for the night’s accommodation? It was supposed to be a good honeymoon but the plan was disrupted,” they explained.

In the end, they returned to China and made the posting after the police had allegedly told them to delete their initial post in regards to this matter.

What would you have done if you were in their shoes? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
