Have you heard of those songs, where the starting key or word just becomes so recognisable that you immediately know what song it is? Well, the American band, Smash Mouth, gave us one of those songs (All Star).
Smash Mouth was founded by vocalist, Steve Harwell, in 1994 and history was made.
Sadly, the band took to their Facebook page to announce Harwell’s passing on September 4 (Monday).
They wrote, “Steve Harwell was a true American Original. A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle. Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom.”
“And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable. His only tools were his irrepressible charm and charisma, his fearlessly reckless ambition and his king-sized cajones (balls in Spanish slang).”
According to a report by Rolling Stone, Harwell passed away in his home in Idaho, United States (US), at the age of 56 due to liver failure and had previously been in hospice care for medical complications.
“Steve lived a 100% full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out. Good night, Heevo Veev. Rest in peace knowing you aimed for the stars and magically hit your target,” the band added.
