Wherever you are, there are always rules that we’re expected to follow, especially when we’re in a foreign land as a form of respect to the people of the country.

A food vendor outside of KLCC recently went viral after their business created a “smokey” nuisance, prompting the public to be uneasy and the cry for help from authorities went on. To those who have been waiting for actions to be taken, DBKL announced via their Facebook page that they had paid a visit to the viral vendor, who is also a foreigner.

Following the numerous complaints from the public, DBKL went to the scene at Jalan Ampang and spoke to the foreign roasted corn vendor, and confiscated their items, including the charcoal which they used in the cooking process.

The vendor recently went viral when a netizen exposed his “smokey” business which affected many people nearby, especially those who travel on foot.

Their visit during the weekend to crack down on illegal vendors without business licenses was not only limited to Jalan Ampang but also several other locations in KL, including Jalan Imbi and Jalan P. Ramlee.

“We received some complaints from the public on TikTok and Facebook,” DBKL said in the post.

A total of 4 confiscation and movement actions were taken against non-citizen hawkers who hawk food and drinks, including two used-clothing dealers. DBKL was also gracious enough to share some pictures of the scene where they carried out the operations.

The city council also assured the public that they have deployed authorities and officers to multiple hotspot locations, which are believed to be where illegal vendors usually operate their businesses.

Compound notices under by-law (UUK) 3(1), UUK on Hawker Licensing (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) 2016 against unlicensed national hawkers were also issued.

Major gratitude to DBKL for the quick actions and hopefully, the raids will continue to make sure the laws are followed.
