Not long ago, our country, along with the rest of the world, was plagued by the Covid-19 pandemic which resulted in countless deaths. At that point, the government had acted by appointing health and medical personnel, on a contract basis, from private universities and colleges.

Among the positions appointed were Assistant Medical Officers (PPP), Medical Laboratory Technologists (JTMP), Assistant Environmental Health Officers (PPKP) and X-ray Technicians, to support the somewhat paralysed health service industry.

Now, many of them are allegedly losing their positions as we’ve learned to live with Covid-19, as shared by Frontliner Solidarity in a petition.

“In accordance with the approval (of appointments of medical personnel on a contract basis), the Ministry of Health (KKM) issued a contract appointment offer letter to the successful candidates. Among them are many who sacrificed their original careers to help the country. Some were placed far from their families. Also during that period, many ‘fell‘ to save the country,”

“However, after the epidemic began to subside, the services of health and medical personnel appointed to this contract were no longer needed. Our services are being phased out. Where is the justice for us? A total of 1,271 officers have been terminated from the beginning of 2023 until now, and 1,889 officers will face the same this June,” they wrote.

Long story short, these medical professionals were basically sucked dry of all their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic and are now being thrown out.

They only want to be acknowledged for their contributions and to continue serving our country.

“This call for solidarity is to welcome the wishes of the Ministry of Health in improving the quality of services to the public. With that, we need a guarantee of continuing the contract, such as the appointment of a sponsored contract and we hope that the government can consider permanent appointments for all of us in the future,”

“We love our country and this is one of our ways for us to be more enthusiastic and responsible in carrying out tasks with full dedication for the sake of the people. The feeling of love for everyone has made us choose to continue in the field we are engaged in,” they added.

These medical professionals gave us their all during the Covid-19 pandemic, and now that that’s over, they really deserve better out of the country they saved.

If you think they deserve better, you can check out and sign the petition here.
