Bazaar Ramadhan is perhaps one of the hotspots for food hunting, and one of the best things about it is the food sold which is all halal, which is suitable for everyone. However, a Bazaar Ramadhan in Marsiling Singapore recently went viral for the wrong reasons.

One of the vendors was found selling pork, and the image was shared by one of the visitors to the market, Shaa.

Fortunately, the Marsiling Constituency Office was quick to take action after the matter reached their attention following the complaints from visitors.

They have since reached out to the organisers of Bazaar Raya Utara, and vendors who had pork on their menus have been asked to stop the sale.

“Immediate corrective steps to stop the sale of pork have been taken, and we will endeavour to prevent future recurrence.”

According to a post in the Facebook group Marsiling: Our Community, Our Home, the Constituency Office will always do its best to provide the best Ramadhan experience to all visitors as much as they can.

“This includes performances during the weekends as well as halal/Muslim-owned and non-halal stalls to cater to all residents.”

In the meantime, they also took the opportunity to thank the public who voiced their concerns, and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

“Bazaar Ramadhan = halal food, no?”

While Singapore is also a multiracial country, netizens mostly agreed that the place shouldn’t be labelled a Bazaar Ramadhan if there is a presence of pork or alcohol. Many thought that the place should’ve been called “Marsiling Night Market”.

It’s best to take into account certain sensitivities, especially when it comes to Ramadhan as not everyone consumes pork and alcohol. Fellow Malaysians, do you think the organisers should’ve filtered the menus, or do you think it makes no harm, as long as the Muslims don’t purchase the prohibited menu?
