From sunrise to sunset, fasting in Ramadan makes this Islamic month the most significant of months for Muslims across the globe.

As Ramadan is celebrated with bazaars and foods that are uniquely Malaysian, one might wonder what it is like to fast in other countries – in this instance, how different are the hours of fasting when talking about places like New Zealand or France for instance.

Taking to Twitter, this netizen shared just how different the hours are, and where Malaysia stands compared to other locations around the globe.

Scientifically, due to the tilt of the Earth and the sun’s position, fasting hours vary, with countries located near the equator tending to have shorter fasting hours, while northern and southern latitudes experiencing longer fasting periods.

In the list, Greenland tops the list with fasting hours recorded at 16h 01m. European countries in general experience 13h plus of fasting.

So what’s the shortest time? Well, because of our location, which is near to the equator, we experience the shortest fasting period, on this list at least at 13h 13m.

Commenting on the tweet, Malaysians in general began inviting people from other countries to come here and experience one of the shortest fasting periods in the world.

Happy fasting!
