National badminton player Lee Zii Jia ended his journey in the All England Open yesterday (March 18), after losing 21-19, 21-13 against China player Shi Yu Qi in the semi-final match.

After the match, a number of netizens shared several posts on the Facebook group KL 娱乐站 and expressed their disappointment. One of the posts, which gathered more than 1.5k reactions, talked about Lee’s arrogant attitude.

“It’s nice to see such a result. From the time I started to know badminton, I will always support Malaysian representatives. But ever since BB Lee Zii Jia emerges, I have changed my opinion, which doesn’t mean I have to support whoever is representing the country. You are LCLY (arrogant) and I can’t stand it,” the post states.

One of the comments compared him to Lee Chong Wei. “During Lee Chong Wei’s time, even though he lost, fans across the country will cheer, encourage and feel sad for him, but you are really special.”

The comment continues to describe Lee Zii Jia as being arrogant after winning just a match and losing motivation after losing five to six scores behind.

Another sarcastic comment states, “Agree that he is the athlete with the most problems in Malaysia today… Wait no, we should be calling him a singer.”

“What the post owner said is right. You don’t have to support whoever is representing the country. He played really badly, really messed up. There is no coaching. And it feels like he doesn’t really put playing first, although we shouted a lot to cheer him up. I advise him to stop participating in competitions and adjust himself first,” another user said.

The comment section was filled with opinions on Lee being arrogant. Although some comments seemed harsh and sarcastic, some users hope that he can learn from his mistakes and be more humble. Besides, there are a lot of fans who are still cheering for him and supporting him.

Nevertheless, we hope that Lee Zii Jia, and other Malaysian athletes can ignore non-constructive hateful comments, continue to perform well and make Malaysians proud.
